Toronto and Area Bishop

The Trent-Durham episcopal area has 45 parishes and 69 churches in small towns, rural communities, and rapidly growing urban areas along the lakeshore. It is the largest geographical area of the Diocese of Toronto, stretching from Pickering to Brighton and from Lake Ontario to Haliburton.

Trent-Durham Area Bishop

The Right Reverend Michael Bedford-Jones,
Area Bishop of Trent-Durham Episcopal Area in the Diocese of Toronto



 Bishop Michael Bedford-Jones

Born in Toronto, he attended Trinity College, University of Toronto, and was ordained priest in May 1968. He has served throughout the diocese and was Executive Assistant to the Bishop of Toronto from 1988 to 1991. In 1991 he became incumbent of St. George's Cathedral in Kingston, Ontario, Dean of Ontario and Rector of Kingston.

Bishop Bedford-Jones was elected Suffragan Bishop of Toronto in 1993. He was consecrated bishop in February 1994 and installed as area bishop of York-Scarborough the same year.
